AISHA’S FASHION FAVES

Living for the looks, the culture, and the thrill of the find — shopping Chicago since 1993.

✨ FEATURED POST ✨

The Holy Grail Haul

November 1997 • State Street, Chicago

It started the way so many of my best fashion adventures do — curled up in my room, flipping through the glossy pages of fashion magazines, losing myself in the looks. The models wore coats that swept the floor, draped over their shoulders like armor. Outside, the air had that familiar crisp edge that whispers one thing: the seasons are shifting. I needed a new coat. Not just any coat — the coat. A black leather coat, substantial and commanding. I knew exactly where to find it: Marshall Field’s on State Street in Chicago, my ultimate fashion destination.

Not just any coat. THE coat.

January Blizzard, Warm Cashmere: Shopping the Flagship on State Street

January 1998

The wind off the lake was brutal that January. But nothing — not a polar vortex, not two feet of snow — was going to keep me off State Street. I had heard the cashmere had just come in and I was not about to miss it.

From School Halls to State Street: The Day I Discovered a Sale at Marshall Field’s

March 1998

It began, as so many great fashion stories do, with a magazine. Pages dog-eared, editorials memorized, glossy spreads studied like scripture. That particular winter — Chicago, 1998 — the fashion world was deep in its love affair with leather: sleek, structured, unapologetically bold.

Spring on the Mile: When the Mannequins Got It Right

April 1998

Spring on Michigan Avenue hit different back then. The window displays were an art form. I remember standing outside one window for a full ten minutes just studying the outfit on the mannequin — then going inside and buying every single piece.
